17 Nigerians Deported From Ghana, As White Man Shoots Another Dead In South Africa – Daily Advent Nigeria

According to reports from PM News, the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) has deported 17 out of the 29 persons who were arrested in Ho, in the Volta Regional capital. They were deported for allegedly getting involved in cyber crimes which is popularly referred to as ‘yahoo yahoo’ in Nigeria.

The Ghanaian Times, further reported that the 17 Nigerians were handed over to the GIS for screening after they got arrested so that their immigration status could be determined.

DSP Anthony Danso, the Municipal Police Commander of Ho, had on Tuesday, briefed the Ghanaian Times that it was discovered that the deported persons did not possess a standing with immigration service.

The ones who were discovered to be legal residents of Ho were later released and then reunited with their various communities.

Danso pointed out that some of the landlords had leased houses to Nigerians, some of whom have in turn used their accommodations to carry out a number of nefarious activities, with cyber fraud included.

The police had in the course of the raid, retrieved two television sets, 33 laptops, one wireless router as well as 20 cell phones with other electronic gadgets.

In another story, the Chairman of the Nigerian Union in the South African Province of Kwa-Zulu-Natal, Mr. Sylvester Okonkwo, had on Wednesday, made the confirmation that another Nigerian, identified as Mr Chibuike Okeke, has been gunned down on the 20th of June in the country.

As Okonkwo confirmed the killing of Okeke, he stated that he was shot dead in front of Shoprite, CBD of Richards Bay, in the Kwa-Zulu-Natal Province by a white South African man.

The elder brother to the deceased, Mr Chinedu Okeke had made the union aware of the case saying that his brother was shot dead after leaving his place, Okonkwo had revealed.

The brother to the deceased is said to be highly distraught as the younger Okeke was a very promising young man.

Chibuike who was just 26, hailed from Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra State. He was known as a skilled phone technician in Richards Bay.

Mr Joshua Itua, the Vice-President of NUSA related to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the National Secretariat of the union had been informed of the case and that they were taking steps to address the situation.

The body as well made an appeal to the Federal Government to put measures in place to protect their lives.
