Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested an Islamic cleric, Jamiu Olasheu, 35, and three others for being in unlawfull possession of a human skull. a 35-year-old Islamic cleric has been arrested alongside three others for being in possession of a human skull.
Two of the suspects: Teslim Ayeniromo, 45, and Sunday Kolade , 35, were accosted on a motorcycle, at Kofedoti area of the state, by a team of policemen attached to Agbara division. During a search, the human skull was discovered in a bag one of them held, consequent upon which they were whisked to the Police station.
During interrogation by the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Adegbite Omotayo, the suspects , claimed that the skull was given to them by one Micheal Osanyinbi, adding that they were on their way to deliver it to the Islamic cleric when they were intercepted.
Spokesman for the Ogun State Police Command, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, who confirmed the arrest, said, “They led the DPO to the house of the man who gave them the skull. The man in turn, led the police to the self acclaimed cleric’s house. The Islamic cleric has made confessional statement that he actually requested for the skull which Micheal Osanyinbi promised to get for him at N25,000 and an additional N1,000 for the motorbike man who will deliver it to him. He stated further that the skull is needed for a yet to disclosed ritual. Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Iliaysu, has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect to the Special Anti Robbery Squad for further investigation and prosecution”.
In other news, No fewer than 40 traditional rulers under the aegis of Yewa Traditional Council in Ogun State have threatened to drag Nigeria Customs Service to court over alleged extra judicial killings of residents in the border towns of the state. Leading the traditional rulers in the area, the Olu of Ilaro and paramount ruler of Yewa land, Oba Kehinde Olugbenle, lamented that many of their subjects were being killed by the operatives of Nigeria Customs Service.
Oba Olugbenle, who read a statement jointly signed by the 40 traditional rulers, stated, “We are sad by the spate of harassment, maiming, and killings of our people in Yewa communities and Ogun State by men of Nigeria Customs Service under the guise of pursuing smugglers or raiding of shops where smugglers items are kept. ”The traditional leaders lamented that the killings were rampant and urged President Muhammadu Buhari; Inspector General of Police, Muhammed Adamu; and Director, Department of State Security Services, Yusuf Bichi, to curb the excesses of customs officers. The council also accused the public relations department of the service of covering its atrocities by feeding the press with distorted facts.
The council said, “The recent killings on Monday, 21st January at Owode-Yewa, Ogun State where five persons were killed and many injured in an irresponsible raid on the community. “We are not at war with anybody. A lawyer is taking up the issue on behalf of the community; we are toeing the path of Justice.”
