The People of Oba in Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State have appealed to Adamu Mohammed, the Acting Inspector General of Police, to come to their rescue over the incessant clampdown on their people by the disbanded IGP monitoring team based in Port Harcourt headed by Mr. Ben Igwe, a newly promoted Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP).
They described the action of the disbanded team in coming into Anambra State as a slight on the Anambra State Police Command and urged the IGP to immediately question the team adding that Wednesday it stormed the state and arrested one Chukwuanugo Onunkwo.
It was gathered that the DPC had vowed to imprison him and the President General of Aboji Akanano Union Oba, Chief Dozie Nweke, for allegedly not dancing to the tune of the DCP and his team.
To actualise his vow, the DCP, through the Ministry of Justice last week dragged Chief Dozie Nweke, Onunkwo and others at large to an Idemili High Court, sitting in Ogidi, Anambra State.
In a six- count charge against Nweke and others signed by one Mr. C. C. Arinze-Onyia, State Corper, on behalf of Ministry of Justice, they accused Nweke and others of committing malicious damage, unlawful assembly and rioting all contrary to Criminal Code Cap36, Volume 11, revised Laws of Anambra State of Nigeria, 1991.
