Youths from 181 communities in Anambra State, under the aegis of Anambra State Association of Town Unions (ASTU), have thrown their weight behind the action of Ohanaeze Ndigbo on the endorsement of the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar.
The youths, led by one Comrade Emeka Orame, also warned their members not to allow politicians to use them as thugs during the election.
Briefing reporters at East End Hotel in Awka, Anambra State capital, on Thursday, the youths said their support for Obi, Atiku’s running mate, was as a result of the leadership he gave the people of the state during his tenure, adding that Obi would replicate same if elected at the national level.
They declared: “We the Anambra State Association of Town Unions (ASATU) Youth Wing, Anambra Central Senatorial Zone, led by Comrade Emeka Orame, on the strength of the resolution of our national body, declare our stand with His Excellency, Mr. Peter Obi, as our brother.
“That our nation at this point in time needs the combination of Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and Mr. Peter Obi as solution to the myriad of problems confronting the country ranging from economy, insecurity and lawlessness.”
Orame said the national body of ASATU, led by Osita Kingsley Ozalagba, had made it clear that Ndigbo would give Obi full support in his quest to becoming the vice president.
However, they maintained that any of their members found being used as thug by any politician during the election, would have himself to blame
Other youth leaders namely Onyebuchi Nwobu, (Awka leader) Onyemaobi Augustine (Secretary) among others also spoke in the same vein.
