About 100 people from Jirrawa community in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State stormed the Zamfara State Government House, Gusau carrying a dead body allegedly killed by bandits on Saturday.
The dead person identified as Shafiu Inusa was said to be killed in his farm when the bandits attacked the community on Saturday shooting sporadically at all directions.
Speaking on behalf of the people who besieged the gate of the Government House, Muntari Abdullahi and Muhammadu Sani said the bandits in their dozens invaded the village around and shot sporadically which led to the death of the deceased who was working in his farm at the time of the attack.
“We only realized that they have already killed Shafiu In on his farm while he was trying to apply fertilizer on his plants after the rains of last night”, they said.
The villagers added that the bandits have always passed by the village without any threat or harassment until the last few months, when they began to attack the village.
“We gathered from his farm neighbour and brother that initially one of the bandits appeared before them saying anyone who knows he is guilty should run and who is not should stay” they said.
The state Commissioner of Police, Barrister Usman Nagogo who addressed the protesters, expressed shock over the attack but assures that the peace initiative by governor Bello Mohammed which he is leading is working to end such ugly incidents in the state.
“On this Jirrawa issue, I have spoken with my contacts around the area and the repentant bandits promised to meet tomorrow and fish out the perpetrators of this latest attack and hand the culprits over, this is in the partnership we are now enjoying”, he said.

Nagogo said he is in constant contact with bandits groups in all the bushes and the discussions have been positive leading to the peace being currently enjoyed in the state.
“That does not mean that the hardened criminals are no longer there, they are the ones that perpetrated this now but I assure you, it will soon end”, he said.
The peace and dialogue initiative of the state government is leading to the release of kidnap victims and the repentance of several bandits.
