Federal road safety corps has revealed that over 30 persons were killed, 245 injured in 57 crash involving 90 car in the first quarter of 2019 from January to April in Gombe state.
Nigeria road is never known with safety, with the recklessness of drivers on the road, there’s always constant report of an accident due to the negligence of simple traffic laws by drivers, especially, the big truck drivers.
In the report according to Blueprint the Gombe State Commander of FRSC, Dr Godwin Omiko, while speaking in a press conference to mark the 2019 Global United Nation Road Safety Week, revealed that the several have lost their lives to accident-related issues within the first quarter of the year.
He said, “a total of 57 crashes involving 91 vehicles, killing 30 persons while 245 persons were injured, in the first quarter of 2019 we recorded and in 2018 last quarter reports of road traffic crashes shows that 71 crashes were reported involving 96 vehicles killing 30 persons while 218 were injured.
The sector commander said road traffic injuries were identified as the leading killer of children and young people between ages 5-29 globally.
“In spite progress made in many countries recent studies shows that road traffic injuries are now the leading killer of children and young people between the age of 5 and 29 globally,” he said.
Road accident is mostly widely caused by reckless driving and impatience of drivers while driving with the haste to overtake another in a car race that is no one would get a price for, but rather, it’s aimed at fuelling the pride of the drivers which as sent many lives to their graves.
Among other things that have brought this mishap caused by accidents in the country, bad roads are also a major factor, as many roads are far from been motor-able for the motorist, due to the damage that those roads have experienced.
