A commercial driver plying the Kaduna-Birnin Gwari Highway has raised alarm that unlike in the past when their vehicles were flagged down before the armed bandits embark on raids, the gunmen now open fire on approaching vehicles.
Sulaiman Mohammed said this when over 30 groups stormed the residence of Senator representing Kaduna Central, Distinguished Senator Shehu Sani on Tuesday to appeal for help from the upper legislative arm.
He said that because they have stopped halting for the bandits when flagged down, all they now do is open fire on them and their passengers before reaching out and abducting those that survive the bullet rains.
He explained that as a result, several of their colleagues have been kidnapped.
Mohammed said that if something urgent is not done, they might have to abandon plying that route.
Responding, Senator Shehu Sani said that the letter the group led by the Vice Chairman, Birnin Gwari Emirate Progressive Union, Nasir Khalid to the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, while assuring it would be treated with the urgency it deserves.
