IPOB alleges arrest of members by military

IPOB alleges South East governors' plan to arrest members with soldiers

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has cried out in condemnation of what it described as unprovoked military siege in the South East under the guise of Operation Python Dance III.

The Biafra group said on Thursday that it was drawing the attention of the global community to the incessant arrest, kidnapping, and house to house searching going on in Abia, Ebonyi, Enugu, and Anambra states by the Nigeria military with the support of South East governors and Ohanaeze Ndigbo.

In a statement signed by the spokesman of the group, Emma Powerful, and made available to Daily Independent in Abakaliki, IPOB said the reason for Operation Python Dance III in the zone was to arrest and kill the group leaders and followers in order to frustrate their plan to boycott the forthcoming general elections in the zone.

IPOB said it was a thing of shame to the Nigerian government and South East governors that Boko Haram was busy killing people and occupying towns and villages in the North while the Nigerian military was busy chasing rabbits in Biafraland in the name of Operation Python Dance.

Part of the statement reads: “The global family of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) consider it important to put the whole world on notice once again over the incessant arrest, kidnapping and house to house searching going on in Abia, Ebonyi, Enugu and in the past few days in Anambra, too.

“Biafraland is once again under unprovoked military siege and those suspected to be ardent supporters of the present IPOB led Biafra agitation are being abducted by security agencies and locked away unable to reach their worried families.

“These recent kidnappings and abductions are happening under the noses of the governors of these states which leave the ugly impression that they orchestrated it. Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia, David Umahi of Ebonyi, Willie Obiano of Anambra, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu, and Ohanaeze Ndigbo led by Nnia Nwodo have for the past three years persisted in using the Nigerian army and DSS to persecute those in IPOB fighting for our freedom.

“It appears they are not satisfied with the damage they have caused so far and appear intent on provoking IPOB to carry out reprisal attacks against their families.

“Their aim is to put fear and frustrate the people’s decision to boycott this coming sham election, but their plan will never work because as always IPOB is the people and the people is IPOB.

“Our decision is irreversible unless our demands are met. Those who are foolish enough to ignore our warning will wake up on the morning of February 17 to realise that underestimating IPOB yet again has cost them dearly.”
