Ministerial nomination: Huge crowd welcomes Aregbesola from overseas | TODAY.NG

A huge crowd of All Progressives Congress (APC) members, on Wednesday night, welcomed former Osun State governor and ministerial nominee, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, from a short overseas trip.

It was a fiesta of sort at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja (MMIA), Lagos State, when the politicians celebrated one of their leading lights.

The crowd displayed banners with various inscriptions, such as “Welcome home and congratulations on your nomination as minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria”; “We are proud of you, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola”; “AregbeMandate 100 per cent”, among others.

Those at the airport to receive the former governor were Alhaji Abdullahi Enilolobo, Bisi Yusuf, Makinde Rasheed Lanre, Kehinde Joseph, Usamat Akinbile-Yusuf, Jude Idimogu and Alhaji Tajudeen Olorunwa.

Others included Adeleke Ipaye, Alhaji Yisa Y., Sesan Sobande, Alhaji Abdulwahab Ajulo, Prince Adewale Bello and Gbenga Falegan.

The party faithful, who dressed in white and orange caps and headgears, sang various political lyrics showing appreciation to God, the party’s National Leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and President Muhammadu Buhari for finding the former governor worthy to be a member of the Federal Executive Council (FEC).

Leading the mammoth crowd, Lagos State APC Organising Secretary and Apex Leader in Alimosho Local Government Area, Alhaji Abdullahi Enilolobo, said he was delighted to receive “his boss” who had been out of the country before his nomination.

“I am elated and happy to have led these teeming members of our great party, the APC, to receive my boss, my leader and my father, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, who has just been nominated a minister in the Next Level government of President Buhari.

“I am optimistic that Ogbeni Aregbesola will deliver on any portfolio he handles as he is so vast in human, society and economic development.

“Let me use this medium to express appreciation those who came out in their large numbers to receive ‘Oranmiyan’. This shows we are committed to the progress of our party and leaders.”

The crowd later moved in a convoy to the Bourdillon Street, Ikoyi home of Asiwjau Tinubu to show their appreciation to him.

They were received by a member of the Governor’s Advisory Council, Cardinal James Odunbaku, as well as Alhaji Ganiyu Badmus, among other top APC chieftains.

Odunbaku prayed for more wisdom, knowledge and understanding for Aregbesola to enable him achieve great feats in his assignment.

A group, The Formidable Team, presented a Hall of Fame Leadership Award to Aregbesola at the Asiwaju Tinubu’s home.

Its founder and member of Lagos State House of Assembly representing Ifako Ijaiye Constituency II, Rasheed Makinde, lauded the nomination of Aregbesola.

He expressed optimistic that Aregbesola will not disappoint his teeming followers as his antecedent had shown his leadership qualities.

Osun State Governor Adegboyega Oyetola has congratulated Aregbesola for his nomination as a minister by President Muhammadu Buhari.

A statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Adeniyi Adesina, said the governor described the nomination of his predecessor as worthwhile.

Praising the President for nominating Aregbesola, the governor said the nation would gain immensely from the wealth of experience and depth of knowledge Aregbesola would bring to the table.

Oyetola said: “He is a man of ideas who will deliver in any ministry where he is posted. It is time for the nation to benefit from his large capacity to perform, which he demonstrated as a public servant in Lagos and Osun States.”
