• Congratulates Orodje of Okpe on 13th coronation anniversary
Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa yesterday inaugurated the Board of Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC) and Local Government Service Commission.
Okowa, who also swore in the auditor-general of the state, Mr. Paul Aghanenu, charged all political appointees to embrace accountability, adding that inability to account for stewardship had cost many public officers the respect and goodwill of the public.
He specifically urged members of the board of DESOPADEC to ensure that projects were executed according to the needs of the people, saying: “Do not exclude the locals from the process of project execution.
“As appointees of this administration, you must make it a point of duty to avail the public of your programmes and actions. Let the people know what you are doing, why you are doing them and the anticipated outcome of such actions, because it is easy to gain the goodwill and trust of the community once projects meet specifications, suitably priced and properly monitored.
“I trust that you will do the wise thing of involving the host-communities in your decision-making process, as peace, co-operation and development, team-work, discipline and mutual understanding are pre-requisites for your success. You must be fair, equitable and just, and let me hasten to add that this administration will not hesitate to sanction any erring board member in accordance with the provisions of the law.”
Also, the governor, who charged members of the Local Government Service Commission, Joseph Otirhue, Pastor Chukwuka Greatman, Katherine Ilolo and Chief (Mrs.) Rose Asore, to be guided by the extant rules and regulations, implored them to be transparent and fair at all times in dealing with members of staff matters.
Meanwhile, Okowa has congratulated the Orodje of Okpe Kingdom, His Royal Majesty (HRM), Maj.-Gen. Felix Mujakperuo (rtd), on the 13th anniversary of his ascension to the ancient throne.
In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Olisa Ifeajika, yesterday in Asaba, the governor commended the monarch for making Okpe Kingdom peaceful and investor-friendly since he ascended the ancient throne of his forefathers 13 years ago.
Okowa, who described the monarch as “a bridge builder, a man of peace and integrity” whose leadership has been very beneficial to the kingdom and humanity,” said: “On behalf of the government and people of Delta State, I warmly felicitate with HRM Maj.-Gen. Felix Mujakperuo (rtd), CFR, Orhue I, the Orodje of Okpe Kingdom, on the 13th coronation anniversary.
We join the people of Okpe Kingdom in celebrating His Royal Majesty with good health, wisdom and strength to continue his reign in the Kingdom.”
