Passengers Dead As Bus Collides With Truck At Niger Bridge In Onitsha (Photos)

A fatal accident happened earlier today at the Niger Bridge in Onitsha, Anambra State. According to reports, the accident was allegedly caused by wrongful overtaking by the bus driver, which led to the vehicle colliding with a truck on the bridge.

Sketchy reports as at press time have it that an unspecified number of bus passengers were killed in the accident including two little children.

The other injured victims were rushed to the hospital for treatment.  Emergency officials and security operatives arrived the scene to evacuate the corpses and also control the traffic which built up following the crash.

“At least 48 people are dead and around five are injured among those found so far,” the head of the police’s highway patrol division, Colonel Dino Escudero, said. The bus was travelling from Huacho, 130 km north of the capital, to Lima with 53 passengers on board. The spot where the accident occurred is known as the “devil’s curve.”
