Ekiti State Police Command has deployed anti-riot policemen to protect facilities at the Ekiti State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), following rumours that some contractors executing projects with the agency are planning a protest.

The policemen deployed to the premises with three vans were seen in strategic locations around the SUBEB compound on Stadium Road in Okesa area of Ado-Ekiti.

Unconfirmed reports said that the Ekiti SUBEB contractors were planning a protest over debt owed them and alleged flagging of their accounts.

Following the tension triggered by the rumour and the need to prevent breakdown of law and order, the state Commissioner of Police (CP), Asuquo Amba, mobilised his men to safeguard the agency.

When contacted, Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of Ekiti Command, Caleb Ikechukwu said, “We took proactive action to prevent government property from being vandalised.”
