Police recover baby sold for N550,000 in Onitsha – OrientDailyNews

ByPolice detectives attached to Awada division of the Anambra state police command have arrested one Juliet Onweagba, 50 years of No 3 Onyekwere Street, Awada, Onitsha, over alleged child trafficking.

Orient Daily learnt that the suspect conspired with one Edith Ewudo, 49, of Orsumoghu Street, Awada, near Onitsha and bought a new-born baby at the sum of N550,000 from one Ndidi Egeonu, 35 years of Odume Obosi in Idemili North LGA of Anambra state.

According to an official statement issued by the Anambra state police command’s public relations officer, SP Haruna Mohammed, the baby was stolen from its 23-year-old mother, Udechukwu Faith, at 3-3 area, near Onitsha, shortly after delivery on June 2.

Mohammed further disclosed that the principal suspect, Juliet Onweagba, was nabbed on Wednesday, June 12, and the baby also rescued while the case is under investigation prior to the suspects being charged to court.
