Tragedy thwarted as trucks, four cars clash in Lagos – Daily Advent Nigeria

Tragedy was averted, on Wednesday, as a fuel-laden tanker and a truck collided with four cars at the Palmgrove area of Lagos State.

It was gathered that the accidents occurred around 2.31pm.

Report stated that the vehicles involved were a Honda Accord car, a blue Toyota Matrix, a grey Toyota Corolla, a black KIA saloon car, a tanker loaded with 33,000 litres of Automotive Gas Oil and a Dangote truck laden with edible wheat.

The General Manager, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, Adesina Tiamiyu, said the cause of the accidents was unknown, adding that it might be as a result of brake failure on the part of one of the vehicles.

It was learnt that the emergency responders who attended to the crashes included officers of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASEMA and  the Lagos State Fire Service.

Tiamiyu said, “The accidents happened around 2.31pm around the Palmgrove bus stop inward Obanikoro and involved four cars and two heavy-duty trucks. No casualty was recorded in the accident.

“We guess that the cause of the accidents might be a head-on collision or brake failure, but the vehicles were recovered by LASTMA and LASEMA officials, and we have been able to clear them and they have been taken away by the police for further investigation.”

The state Police Public Relations Officers, CSP Chike Oti, who also confirmed the accidents, said an argument by two drivers caused the multiple accidents.

He stated, “The accidents occured around Palmgrove and it involved six vehicles – two tankers and four cars. They were minor road accidents in the sense that nobody was injured or killed, only the vehicles were damaged.

“From what we gathered, two vehicles had earlier been involved in an accident on that road; the drivers came out and were arguing about who was at fault; while they were at it, one of the tankers’ brakes failed and it rammed into the other and this led to multiple accidents that involved the other cars. When the two drivers, who were arguing saw what they had caused, they drove off in a hurry.”
