Two dead in Ondo cult clashes | The Guardian Nigeria Newspaper

Palpable fear gripped Ondo town in Ondo West Local Government Area of Ondo State as two people were reportedly killed in separate clashes that involved two rival cult groups.

Guardian gathered that members of Aiye and Eiye confraternities, who had been engaging in reprisal attacks for some time, had another bloody scuffles on Monday night and the early hours of Tuesday.

It was also learnt that one of the victims, identified as Olaleye Isiaka was clubbed to death on Monday night while the other deceased, whose identity was unknown as at the time of filing this report, was shot dead on Tuesday morning during a different attack.

According to an eyewitness, who pleaded anonymity, “Isiaka is a member of Eye confraternity, in company of some of his friends at a joint located at Akure motor park in the town, when members of the rival group attacked him.”When the attackers reached the scene, they started shooting sporadically, the people around the area had to run for safety. Isiaka too attempted to escape from the scene but he was shot several times.”

He disclosed, “When the several shots did not enter into his body, the attackers later clubbed him till he gave up the ghost.”The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr. Femi Joseph, confirmed the incident and said the command had commenced investigation into the matter.

He said, “We only have the identity of one of the deceased, Isiaka. He is a notorious cultist in the town. A rival cult group killed him. The second person was killed this (Tuesday) morning stet a reprisal attack from Isiaka’s group to the rival group but we are yet to know his identity.

The investigation has commenced and efforts are ongoing to arrest the perpetrators of the dastardly act.
